Born in Lima, Peru, and raised in South America, Europe, and the USA, Martin is a multi-instrumentalist, song writer, and producer who lives in Portland, Oregon. His work includes over 10 years with Pink Martini, and appearances with Simon Shahin, Jamey Haddad, Leo Blanco, Essiet Essiet, John Butler, Al Andalus, Jorge Pardo, Michael Feinstein, Rufus Wainwright, and Dave Eggar, among others. One of his original compositions, “Mar Desconocido,” can be heard on Pink Martini’s third album, Hey Eugene!” He has recently been touring to promote his first solo project, “Two Dollars To Ride The Train”, a multilingual trip around the world which “Oregon Music News” called "a cornucopia of various styles and influences ... from intimate and haunting world beat to jazz-and blues-influenced pop-tunes that in some cases are almost child-like in nature, but somehow extremely alluring", adding that “Zarzar is a compelling songwriter and multifaceted musician. His tunes are tasteful and judicious in both texture and instrumentation … ”.
